Birch Horton attorney Jason Brandeis was recently interviewed by Alaska’s CBS News affiliate about the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch was nominated by President Trump to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February 2016.
Brandeis, also a professor who teaches constitutional law courses at the University of Alaska Anchorage, discussed several different aspects of the nomination, including Judge Gorsuch’s reputation, his judicial philosophy, and how he is considered by many to have a judicial style very comparable to the late Justice Scalia. Brandeis also explored the circumstances leading to Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, such as the previous unsuccessful nomination of Judge Merrick Garland for the same position, the potential political battles that may be waged during Gorsuch’s upcoming confirmation proceedings, and the impact that Gorsuch could have on the Court’s overall ideology.
