Expect More Bid Protests

Construction is Alaska’s third-largest industry, employing more than 16,000 people. Of the more than $7 billion spent on construction last year, more than one third was for public projects. These projects are usually competitively bid. In January 2017 the Alaska Dispatch News reported an anticipated drop of 10% in construction spending statewide. What does that mean? Greater competition among contractors, for fewer projects. That also means more bid protests: legal objections by contractors who lost out on competitive bidding. As the industry gets more competitive, it will become more important for contractors to know their rights. BHBC has some of the finest and experienced construction lawyers in the state. Max D. Garner and Adam W. Cook head up our construction law group and can assist in any project no matter the size or scope.
