Birch, Horton, Bittner and Cherot’s D.C. office assists clients in a variety of transactional matters. Many of these do not relate to the office’s specialty practices, but concern general business matters of interest to clients located in the Washington metropolitan area.
Other matters, such as transactions involving the legislative and appropriations process, natural resources, the telecommunications industry or the Small Business Administration (SBA) procurement programs, come from a national client base that has grown from our widely recognized expertise in those specialized areas of the law.
To achieve a client’s objectives, our lawyers apply their expertise in contract law as well as practical common sense. Depending on the client’s preferences and budget, we may take the lead role in negotiating a contract with the other party, or instead remain behind the scenes and review contract drafts while providing strategic advice.
Every transaction involves some element of risk. We avoid “over lawyering” deals, but at the same time take prudent precautions. We identify and evaluate risks, allowing the client to make a sound, well-informed business decision whether to proceed quickly with the transaction or slow it down to take the steps needed to reduce risk.
The formation of new corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and not-for-profit businesses is a part of our transactional practice.
Please see the description for each practice area (e.g., natural resources) to identify attorneys with expertise within that specialty.
